The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that the Agency will hold a public
meeting on the Focused Mitigation Strategies to Protect Food Against Intentional Adulteration
Proposed Rule. The meeting will be held February 20, 2014, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm, at the Harvey W.
Wiley Federal Building, FDA, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Wiley Auditorium,
5100 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD 20740.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the proposed rule to require domestic and foreign food
facilities that are required to register under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (the FD&C
Act) to address hazards that may be intentionally introduced by acts of terrorism. FDA is
proposing these requirements as part of the implementation of the FDA Food Safety
Modernization Act (FSMA). The meeting is also designed to solicit oral stakeholder and other
public comments on the proposed rule, inform the public about the rulemaking process (including
how to submit comments, data and other information to the rulemaking docket), and respond to
questions about the proposed rule. Along with this meeting, FDA is considering additional public
meetings on this subject or other public engagement opportunities. Any further public meetings on
this subject would be announcedata later time in the Federal Register.
Public Meeting attendees are encouraged to register on-line or contact: Nick Cane, Nakamoto
